Hello from all of us at Cottage Hill! We miss you!
No internet? No problem! Since school closed in March, Harley has helped birth 13 baby goats, one of which has to be bottle fed. She's re-purposing wood pallets to build stall floors, and sewing masks for the community. Sometimes the most valuable lessons don't come from a book or an online resource...
Check out Leo and Hudson, studying their Kindergarten sight words together! Mom also tells me they are using the sliding glass door to write on, just to keep things interesting! Are you doing something fun and creative with your distance learning? Send me a picture and I'll share it with our Cottage Hill families!

I just had to share this sweet letter from Zachary and Zoë as they are learning at home with their parents. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Mrs Montero!
Today we combined science and math with home-ec, by baking garlic herb skillet bread! We learned about yeast by watching a YouTube video, then made our hypotheses about what would happen when the yeast was sprinkled into the sugar water. Then we went outside for a botany field trip to pick fresh rosemary. They loved the pretty blue flowers, and were amazed that a plant growing in the yard was actually food! We measured our ingredients and carefully mixed everything together, then we kneaded the dough- so fun! We covered the dough for 45 minutes, and made hypotheses again about what would happen. Zoë said she thought it would fill up half the bowl, and Zachary said he thought it would get poofy- they were both correct! We pressed it into the cast iron skillet, spread on some olive oil, sprinkled on the garlic, rosemary, and sea salt, then let it rise again. We put the heavy skillet into the oven and waited patiently. A little while later we enjoyed the fruit of our labor. Delicious, and so fun. We learned so much, and our whole house smells great, plus we got to eat a yummy treat. We're liking this home schooling thing!
Thank you Quinn for sending this picture of you putting your bear in the window! I hope you have been able to find lots of bears in your neighborhood! Students, your parents can send Mrs. Montero pictures of you if you would like to show what you are doing during the school closure.

Wendy, a future preschooler, and her Mom were enjoying the sunshine and creating a "thank you note" to teachers with colored chalk this morning when I stopped by school. I would never have met them if it weren't for the current circumstances... there are many good things that come out of hard times!
We are all missing our Cottage Hill Cubs and wish we could see you, but here is a fun Cub activity you can do with your family. Enjoy listening to author Michael Rosen read his book We’re Going On A Bear Hunt and join in the fun of hunting for your own 🐻bears around your neighborhood.
It’s easy! Just put a 🐻 teddy bear in your window. You can use a stuffed animal, or just color a picture! Then families can go on their own 🐻bear hunts!
Here is the link to the author reading the book:
