November 13, 2017
I know this is hard to believe but this is the last week of the first trimester! This means several things 1) AR scores will be run on Friday; 2) we have a minimum day on Friday (dismissal at noon); and 3) report cards will be headed home soon (Thurs., Nov. 30 to be exact).
Aniyah Jenkins was our star student last week! We enjoyed getting to know her better! We already knew she loved all things pineapple, but many of us learned that she also has a talent for making slime. She even taught our whole class the process by making a batch before our very eyes! Thanks Aniyah!!
Artware & Cookie Dough - Thank you for your orders and participation in these fundraisers! Much appreciated!
Aerospace Museum Field Trip - If you have not already done so, please remember to return your permission slips and funding packets this week. Our field trip is this Thursday!! We are so excited! It looks like it may be a wet one so plan accordingly.
HEADPHONES - Families, please consider getting your student their own inexpensive pair of headphones for use with the Chromebooks in the classroom. Not only are we limited in number, but it is WAY more sanitary. Thank you!!
Math - We begin Chapter 4 on multiplication of decimals this week.
Reading/Lang. Arts - Last week we worked on summarizing key details and identifying parts of the plot in a story we are reading (or writing!). This week we focus on text structure and how concepts are connected. Additionally, in grammar, we will review the rules and spelling of plural nouns.
Social Studies - Our Google slide presentations on our explorers came out great. We continue to study how the frenzy to explore, conquer, and acquire wealth influenced the discovery of the New World and foreign lands.
Science - Our Thanksgiving STEM science activities continue this week! Last week we were challenged with the Mini Mayflower experiment. Students had to design a ship given only two sheets of aluminum foil, 10 popsicle sticks, 12 inches of masking tape, one straw, and two index cards. Their ship has to sail as speedily as possible from "England" to "America" as well as carry the heaviest capacity. They designed and tested a prototype and rebuilt based on their test. This week, we Pilgrims set sail as we test out our creations!
