Fall Family Fun Night!

Be sure to mark your calendars for the annual FALL FAMILY FUN NIGHT at Cottage Hill!  The fun happens from 6:00-8:00, including FREE trick or treating and a Cake Walk.  Bear River High School Drama will be hosting a Haunted House in the multipurpose room for $2.00/child or $5.00/family.  Food will be available for sale from THE DIVE and SWEENEY'S HOT DOGS.

Halloween Parade/Costumes

Halloween is Monday, October 31st.  Students may wear their costumes to school that day!  Please note the following: no masks are allowed (covering the face/eyes is a safety hazard). Weapons, including light sabers, should be left at home.  Shoes must be worn.  Please be sure your child's costume is one that they can get on/off when using the restroom...

We will have our annual Halloween Parade at 8:30 that morning out on the playground.  Please join us, and feel free to wear your costume too!

Fall Break

Next week, October 17-21, is Fall Break.  All schools in the Pleasant Ridge School District will be closed.  There will be no Band, Rec or Enrichment Classes.  We will see you back on Monday, October 24!

Chef Mason visits CH 4th Graders!

Local child chef Mason Partak, winner of "Chopped Jr.", will be visiting our fourth grade classes tomorrow to do a little cooking and talk about his passion.  Mason is a resident of Auburn, and we are looking forward to meeting him!  Parents, you are invited to attend with your child's class.  For more information, check out Mason's website at masonpartak.com

Candy Drive Now in Progress...

Classrooms are now collecting bags of individually wrapped candy to be handed out at our Fall Family Fun Night on October 28th.  You can send your candy to school and each classroom will compete to see which class collects the most by weight!

Teacher of the Year!

Congratulations to Mrs. Michelle Bollen, fifth grade teacher at Cottage Hill!  Mrs. Bollen was recognized at a Nevada County event last night for being Teacher of the Year from the Pleasant Ridge School District.  We all know how wonderful she is, but now the whole county knows it too!  Be sure to give Mrs. Bollen a high five and a hearty congratulations when you see her around campus!

Jogathon Awards!

The school met this morning in the courtyard to recognize the top lap runners in each class.  They each received a certificate and a medal in front of the school. Jenny Topping, Olympic Gold Medalist from 2004, signed each certificate.  Jenny joined us at the Jogathon and helped us create that Olympic Spirit!  Great job to all our students, and THANK YOU to our PTC for creating such a fun fundraiser for Cottage Hill!

What is a "put up?"  It is the opposite of a "put down"!  Ms. Hioki and the Kindness Crew worked with students on the playground to write put ups on the blacktop, reminding all of us about using kind and supportive words when we play!

Congratulations to the following students, who were elected to student council officer positions today!

Our first student council meeting will be this Thursday at 12:10 in room 5!

Have You Filled a Bucket Today????  Friday is the deadline to order this wonderful book for your family!  Bucket filling is a national phenomenon, and is a great way of thinking about kindness in simple terms that young children can relate to.  If you need another copy of the order form, you can download it here from the link provided in the previous post.

The Garden Cart is Back!

Thank you Jodi Porter and the Cottage Hill PTC for bringing back our Garden Cart this year!  The Garden Cart will be out front of school every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at pick up time.  Fresh local fruits and vegetables will be available for a small donation.  It's our own little Cottage Hill Farmer's Market!

Last Friday our students at Cottage Hill participated in the Bucket Fillers assembly, featuring the book "Have you Filled a Bucket Today?"  Each of us carries with us an imaginary bucket...  it gets filled by the kind words and deeds of others.  And we fill the buckets of other people the same way!  This year our KINDNESS theme centers around this idea of being a bucket filler.  Teachers are using the book in the classroom to remind and reinforce our behavior expectations.  Now YOU can extend that conversation into your home!  If you would like to purchase the book, book orders will be coming home in Thursday Folders this week.  Book orders are due Friday, September 16.
