PTC Nominations Now Open...

Being on the PTC is an important and rewarding job!  Each year we ask our parent community if they would like to nominate themselves or someone else to be on the PTC Board.  Board positions include President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  Positions are for one year, but past board members can re-run if they choose.  Nomination forms will be coming home this week, with a description of the duties of each position.  All nominations are due back at school by March 11th, and those nominated will be placed on a ballot.  For those who do not wish to be on the board, ALL parents are welcome to participate at the committee level or as a valued volunteer!

Wear Green Tomorrow!

Tuesday is our Character Counts assembly, honoring students showing outstanding Responsibility.  Wear GREEN TOMORROW, the color of responsibility!

Art Ware Fundraiser Flyer

Please look for the Art Ware fundraiser flyer in your child's folder this week!  This year our art ware program is online, which means you can choose to put your child's art on a variety of different items.  These personalized projects make wonderful gifts for friends and family!

Kindergarten-TK Round Up

Our Kindergarten-TK registration is coming up!  The parent meeting will be held Tuesday, March 15th at 6:30 in the Multipurpose Room.  At this meeting you will receive the registration packet and list of required materials.  You will also sign up for a quick skills assessment appointment.  The skills assessment will be done on Thursday, March 17th at the district office according to your appointment time.

If you are not sure if your child should register for TK or Kindergarten, no worries!  Just come to the meeting and we'll help you figure it out!

Attendance Letters

Hello Parents,  I wanted to remind you of our district policy regarding attendance, and notifying parents when attendance becomes a concern. When a student misses 5 days of school (for any reason), the school sends home an informational letter to parents.  If the absences are due to illness, there isn't a lot that can be done to change things, and we understand that.

When a student misses 10 days, a second letter is sent home and I will call you to see if there is anything I or the school can do to help facilitate better attendance for your child.  As we are on the 100th day of school today, 10 absences right now is 10% of the school year to date.  At 10%, the state considers the student to be "truant" from school.

If your child misses 15 days, the school has the option to report to the School Attendance and Review Board (SARB) at the county.

The bottom line is this: being in school is important to learning.  Sickness can't be helped, but we want to encourage our families to bring their children to school unless they are truly sick.

Thank you!

The Shade Structure is Coming!

Thanks to the hard work of our Cottage Hill PTC and your generous donations, the shade structure for our playground has been ordered.  The picture represents the size and style of the one we will be installing on our playground alongside the grassy area next to the PE shed.  It will cover the concrete tables that are there now.  Our hope is to have it installed in March, but the "ground breaking" date has not been set yet.  Thank you so much to all those who contributed their time, talents, and treasure to this project!

Garden Clean Up Saturday

The PTC will be conducting a Garden Clean Up Day this Saturday from 9:30-12:00.  The plan is to plant one fruit tree and two grape vines, and do some general clean up of the area.  Your help would be greatly appreciated!

For a few minutes today, there was snow falling at Cottage Hill!  It melted as soon as it hit the ground, but students went outside to try to catch wet snowflakes on their tongues.
