--SECOND ANNUAL READING FAIR COMING TO FIRST GRADE- Dear First Grade Families,
This year at Cottage Hill, the first grade students will present our First Grade Reading Fair, on April 12, 2018. This is our performing arts activity for the year. We are sending you this information early so you can begin to plan with your child. Here is a breakdown of what you can expect.
What is a Reading Fair?
It is an opportunity for students to share their favorite fiction book through a storyboard display. Students must identify story elements such as characters and plot. Students should be creative in decorating their board to illustrate the theme of the story. They will be present at their boards to answer questions and may dress as the main character in their story (optional).
Where can we get the book?
The book can be one from home, the library, or purchased for this event. We just ask that the book be appropriate for your child’s reading and grade level. It can be a book that your child has read or one that you have read with them. Please help your child choose quality stories that have all the required story elements.
What is a storyboard?
A storyboard looks similar to a science fair board (tri-fold display) and allows the students to display story elements from the book such as characters, setting and summary. These boards are available at many stores including Michael’s, Staples, and Wal-Mart. (Open Board) Dimensions- 22” x 28” More details are in the packet.
When is it due?
All projects are due Wednesday, April 11, and will be on display at the Reading Fair held on Thursday, April 12, from 8:15-9:15 in the MPR at Cottage Hill School. All family and friends are welcome to attend. School classes may also visit. The boards will also be on display in individual classrooms on Open House night.
Where do I find more information?
Check the complete planning packet which came home March 8, in your child’s blue Communication folder. Reminders will also be here on the website, come home throughout the project, and just prior to the due date. We hope you and your child enjoy this fun opportunity!
Happy Reading, The First Grade Staff
