One more week til spring break! We got this!! :)
Our star student last week was Trevor Keith! We learned a lot about his family and interests and appreciated his help throughout the week!
Just a reminder that our field trip is scheduled for Monday, April 9. If your student will need to order a lunch for that day, it is imperative that their permission slip be returned by this Thursday, as it needs to be turned in before we leave for the break. It should be a great experience and a fun day!
Math - Students did well on the Chapter 8 test and we are (thank goodness, many of them would say) finally out of our fractions unit. That being said, fractions never go away ;) We have started Chapter 9 which focuses on data analysis and graphing.
Reading/Lang. Arts - This week we wrap up our unit on Westward Expansion. Last week we broke up into groups to "act out" our literary selection which was a readers' theater play called "The Road to Rhyolite". This week we revisit the boomtown of Rhyolite in poetic form. Students will learn about the different structures of poetry and rhyme scheme. Additionally, we will compare and contrast the different themes of our literary selections as we wrap up our unit.
Social Studies - Last week we looked at the impact of the triangular trade on the development of slavery in the new world. We now begin learning how governmental structures began to develop as the colonies began to organize and unite. This eventually leads to the American Revolution...
We have also been celebrating Women's History Month with our "Herstory" research project. Students have gathered information, taken notes, and learned how to outline a research paper. We have been working in class to write each paragraph one at a time. This week, students wrap up their rough drafts and begin to edit before we publish in the computer lab.
Science - Please be sure your student is working on their STEAM science project. I can't wait to see all of their amazing work and displays after the break!
