Dyslexia
This page has resources for parents of students with dyslexia, as well as those questioning what dyslexia looks like. The Dyslexia Handbook is a wonderful resource from the International Dyslexia Association. It has a wealth of information related to the signs and symptoms of dyslexia, assessments, effective teaching styles, and self advocacy and more. It's a great place to start learning more about this condition.
I'm often asked what can we do at home to help students become better readers.
Read alouds are always an excellent choice. Take a look at the Learning Ally page on my website. There are lots of fun and engaging games that students and families can play that help improve word retrieval and rapid automatic naming (two areas of reading that are key to improving reading fluency.)
Here is a list of games to try.
