Welcome to the Cottage Hill Preschool

Preschool this year will be held in 2 sessions. We will be offering and Am class begins at 7:55 am and ends at 10:35 am and then a PM class starting at 11:40 am and ending at 2:20 pm. The Preschool is on the campus of Cottage Hill Elementary located in room 22. This year we will have a Wednesday, Friday sessions for 4-year-olds and a Tuesday, Thursday sessions for 3-year-olds.  This year students will be entering and dismiss from the back gate of the school one at a time as we try to help maintain appropriate social distancing.  Each class provides your child with the opportunity for social & emotional development as well as school readiness preparation. The classes are designed to meet the needs of children individually and as a whole unit.  Activities and curriculum are the age and developmental stage appropriate.

*Preschool Enrollment --The preschool enrollment paperwork contains all of the documents that need to be filled out for your child to enroll.  Please bring these documents in addition to shot records and a birth certificate.

*Preschool Handbook--The preschool handbook answers all sorts of questions regarding pick up, drop off, clothes, payments, etc.  (Found in the drop-down menu on the right)

*Preschool Calendar--Our preschool calendar is divided into 3 different 12-week sessions with a week or two break between each session. (Found in the drop-down menu on the right)

About the Teacher:
My Name is Andrea Mertens and I am the Preschool Director/Lead Teacher for Cottage Hill Preschool. I started the preschool in 2014 and this will be our 7th year at Cottage Hill Elementary. My family and I returned to the area where my husband grew up so that our 2 sons could experience the joy's this community has to offer its families. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Chico State in 2001 with a BA in Liberal Studies and a minor in Child Psychology and Physical Education. I also received a AA in Social Behavioral Sciences along the way. While being an educator has always been in my heart I chose to wait to start my career until my children and family were established. I love the joy of learning and the passion that each and every child brings with them as they discover through learning about the world around them.
*This year we will have Mrs. Jessie for our full-time aide in class
Thank you for choosing our preschool program. I look forward to meeting you and your child. If you have any questions, feel free to email me anytime.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Mertens

No School on Feb 18th and 19th

Hello Families,
As many of you are aware the entire staff of PRSD had the opportunity to receive the 1st shot of the Covid-19 vaccinations. On February 17th we will be receiving the 2nd shot. With the current reports stating that people have more of a reaction to the second shot than the first, we will NOT be having school on Thursday, Feb 18th, and Friday, Feb 19th to ensure we stay healthy and don't share our possible germs. To ensure everyone receives the same number of school days they have paid for we will be extending the Preschool School calendar year to cover the missed days.
We hope you understand and wish us well thoughts as we do our best to get back to the regular school we all want and love!

Preschool-3 Things for Next Week!

Hello Preschool,
Next week is the last week to place your Scholastic Book Orders should anyone be interested in adding to your book collection. The order can be placed online for your convenience here: scholastic.com/bookclubs  simply remember to use our class code NHJ2J. If you don't see a book you like on the flyer remember you can always type in a key phrase and books will appear to meet your interest. I will close the book orders on January 31st to ensure all books are received before Valentine's Day should you want a surprise for your little loves!

Speaking of Valentine's Day, It's time to start writing some names. If you plan for your child to participate in giving a Valentine NOW is a good time for them to write their name on the cards ( From......) We have a maximum of 9 students per class. We will not be putting class members' names on the cards as we are still young, HOWEVER, most students can write their names and it is at this point that I recommend they write out their name on at least 3 cards a day to be complete in time. The Valentine cards must arrive NO later than Thursday, February 4th for the T/Th group and Friday, February 5th for the W/F group. This will allow the cards to sit in class and quarantine before being given out the following week during class. Please note if they come any later than the above date I will have to send them back home with your child per Mrs. Montero.

Also, next week January 26th we might NOT have Preschool do to SNOW? Yep, the weather is forecasted to be snow at this point however, we all know that could change. With that said please be aware that the school would send out an ALL CALL to parents possibly Monday night or even Tuesday morning a by 6 am to let you know. I just wanted to give you all a heads up to stay connected as things are changing rapidly. You should also be able to go onto the School website or Pleasant Ridge website as well to see changes made to the school schedule should you need to.
Stay warm and I'll hope to see you next week!
Smiles,
Mrs. Mertens

I will close the book orders on January 31st to ensure all books are received before Valentine's Day should you want a surprise for your little loves!
Speaking of Valentine's Day, I have been given the Ok for our student to bring in their cards (should they/you want to participate) AS LONG AS they arrive NO later than Thursday, February 4th for the T/Th group and Friday, February 5th for the W/F group.
