Academic Talent Search 2018

Academic Talent Search offers 4-9th graders exciting summer courses to choose from at Sacramento State University in subjects like LEGO Robotics, Video Game Development, Neuropsychology, and All the World's a Stage (depending on qualifications).
To join these interactive and hands-on classes, you need to take the ATS Qualifying Exam.  The test only takes an hour and there is no pass or fail, so no need to stress!  Your score determines what classes you are qualified to sign up for.  Taking the test does not mean you MUST sign up for classes.
The test will be given at Cottage Hill during school hours in early February.  There is no cost to take the test, but parents must sign a permission slip.  Permission slips and additional information are available in the office.  The deadline for turning in the permission slip is February 2nd.
Greetings from the Cottage Hill Parent Teacher Club!
There is excitement buzzing in the air, and so much success to report from our January meeting, a few highlights were:

*$10,000.00 from the fall Jog-A-Thon event was allocated to buy Chrome Books.  They are to be ordered ASAP.
*Mistletoe Mall and the Giving Tree were more successful than we ever hoped for; approximately 15 families here at Cottage Hill were recipients of gifts.

While we still have five meetings left in this school year, we are beginning to look towards planning for next year.

Jog-a-Thon, Fall Family Fun Night and Mistletoe Mall committees will begin meeting to brainstorm themes, activities and fun very soon.  These committees all have chairpersons who are organizing the event at this time (something in itself to celebrate), however we are looking for parents who may be able to lend a helping hand with planning and/or helping out the day of the event.  How much time are we talking about?  Good question, approximately 3-5 hours of time leading up to the event for planning meetings and 3 hours on the day of the event.  That’s right, less time than binge watching the first season of Downton Abbey on Netflix.

Also, elections are just around the corner and all board member positions (President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary) will be open and available for new persons to run.  All current board members will remain in the PTC general membership and will be available to assist new board members with questions and “shadowing/training.”

If you enjoy watching your Cottage Hill Cub(s) laugh, smile and play, come and join us, be a part of the fun.  Our meetings are on the second Wednesday of every month at 12:30pm in Room 17.  The next meeting will take place on Valentine’s Day!!!
Happy New Year!
Monday, January 8th is a Professional Development Day for teachers.  There is no school for students.  We will see everyone back on Tuesday, January 9th!

Sweatshirt Orders

We will be sending in the next sweatshirt order after Winter Break!  Order forms are in the office and can be picked up this week or the week we come back.

"It's such a fantastic time to be a Cottage Hill Cub.  Love and generosity abounds in the front office of our school.  As you can see the "Giving Tree" has been a phenomenal success!  The PTC thanks every individual who took the time and care to sponsor a student, shop, and beautifully wrap their gift.  If you have your gift at home awaiting it's wrapping, please bring it in by the end of the school day this Wednesday, December 20th.  Thank you again and Happy Holidays."

Lost and Found Deadline...

The Lost and Found is OVER FLOWING with coats, sweaters, shirts, hats, etc.  Friday, December 22 is the LAST DAY to pick up items from the Lost and Found.  All items left at 2:00 will be donated.  Please stop by and look for any items that belong to your family; all clothing is displayed in the courtyard each day, weather permitting.  Thank you!

"Looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of others this holiday season?  Starting tomorrow, the PTC welcomes you to stop by the front office of Cottage Hill school to select an ornament from the "Joy of Giving Tree."  Each ornament is an opportunity to make a charitable donation of goods to a student/family in need attending our school.  To participate, follow these simple steps:
1. Select an ornament from the "Joy of Giving Tree" that matches up with your donation expectations.
2. Register your name and contact number for that specific ornament/gift on the chart by the tree.
3. Purchase and gift wrap your designated gift item(s).
4. Write the gift code (located on the ornament) on the wrapping paper with black, permanent marker.
5. Return gift(s) to the front office (by December 21st, or earlier) to be placed under the tree and ultimately into the hands of a grateful recipient."
LAST CHANCE! This is the final week of the PTC Clothing Drive! Donation bins will be outside of room 17 all week for your gently used clothing, shoes, linens, towels, blankets and stuffed animals. Let's finish strong!
