Penny Drive Begins Monday!

Pennies for Patients, a fund raising event for children with leukemia and lymphoma, begins on Monday!  This event is sponsored by our student council. A Message From the PTC...

Have you ever wondered what goes into planning the most prominent fundraiser of the school year? Do you have a creative spirit and a desire to work with others for the good of the students at Cottage Hill? Have you ever had the desire to participate in "National Talk Like a Pirate Day" but didn't have a group of people to talk to? Are you intrigued by any of these questions? If you answered "yes" please join us for the first Jog-a-Thon planning meeting this upcoming Wednesday, February 1st at 12:30pm in Room 17. Get in on the ground floor for planning this fun and exciting event which will take place in the Fall!

Thank you PANERA BREAD and PTC!!

A big shout out to the nice folks at PANERA BREAD and our own PTC parents for putting on such a great luncheon for the visiting author today!  Marc Schmatjen was entertaining and inspiring, and it was extra special to be able to celebrate his visit with a delicious array of soups, salads and desserts! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

Kindergarten/TK Round Up is coming!!

Kindergarten/TK Round Up is the first step in registering your child for either of these classes.  Please attend the parent meeting on Tuesday, March 28th at 6:30 to pick up registration materials and schedule a screening assessment.  Have a friend with a young student who might not be on our email list?  Please let them know!

Author Marc Schmatjen visits Cottage Hill!

Local author Marc Schmatjen visited our K-1 classrooms today to read his book The Very Sneezy Garbage Truck.  Our students not only heard a cute story read by the author, but they learned a little about sneezes (did you know they leave your face at 100 mph?) and what people say in other countries when you sneeze (Gesundheit!)  You can still order one of Marc's books online, or use the order form linked to this post.

Our 2-5 grade students will be meeting Marc at an assembly on Thursday, learning about one of the chapter books he has written for the age group.  These books are about a neighborhood detective agency, and the setting for the story is Rocklin!  These books can also be ordered online or with the order form linked to this post.

Thank you Cottage Hill PTC for making this special event possible for our students!!

Tardies...

Just a reminder that school starts at 7:55... that means the bell rings and students should be getting into line with their class at that time.  Teachers are generally in the classroom and starting attendance by 7:58.  If you are arriving after 7:55 your child should go straight to the office to get a tardy slip.  I know it is harder to get going in the rain, but school starts on time, rain or shine!

Library Update

On January 17th and 19th we will be having local author Marc Schmatjen joining us for an assembly. He will be talking about his books and what it is like to be an author. Our 4th and 5th grade classes have been reading his book, The Sycamore Detective Agency - Case Number One - Bonnie and Clyde. This will be a very fun book talk on the 19th.

Then in February we will be participating in the Lions Club International's worldwide project called the "Lion's Reading Action Program". This special literacy program is sponsored by our local Higgins Diggins Lions Club each year. Beginning in February grades 1st - 5th will earn a raffle ticket for each AR quiz that is passed by 80% or higher WITHIN your zone. The more quizzes you complete in your zone AND pass at 80% or higher, the better your chances of winning a brand new Kindle Fire! Best of luck to everyone, and THANK YOU to Higgins Diggins Lions Club for your support of our reading programs!
