The next Parent Teacher Club meeting will be on Wednesday, March 11th at 12:30pm in room 17.  Young children and their parents are welcome!  We will be covering several topics: nominations, committees, Teacher Appreciation Week, and more.  If you’ve been on the fence about whether or not to attend a meeting, this meeting’s a great one to make your first.  We’ll be making lots of decisions that benefit ALL students on campus, for example, contracting Grass Valley Taiko Drum group to perform next Friday, March 13th.  They are back again this year by popular demand.  The students and staff LOVE the deep vibrations and dramatic movement of GV Taiko.

Coronavirus Letter from Nevada County Superintendent of Schools

Please see the most recent information from Scott Lay, Superintendent of Schools for Nevada County.  If your child is staying home from school due to illness, please call the school office to report the illness and symptoms.  This is our way of staying as up to date as possible regarding the health of our community.

If you anticipate that your child will be out 5 days (or longer), you can request an independent study packet.  If the work in the packet is done and turned in when your child comes back to school, it will count towards attendance and they will not be marked absent.
Ryan and Craig at Cottage Hill!

Thank you to Mrs. Butcher for bringing Ryan and Craig Storytime (You Tube Sensation!) to Cottage Hill.  The students and the teachers had a blast!  Mrs. Butcher was able to use her Book Fair proceeds to make this happen, so thank you also to the families who participate in our Book Fair events; your support makes these events possible!
Intent to Return Forms are due this Friday please!

We use these forms to determine how many classes we will need at each grade level next year.  This is an important part of our planning and staffing process.  Please give us your best guess as to whether or not your child will be returning to Cottage Hill next year!

Garden Liason Position Available

Do you enjoy ‘getting your hands dirty?’ The Parent Teacher Club is looking for a parent/family member from our Cottage Hill families to finish out the remainder of this school year’s farm to school garden program.  This is a PAID POSITION!  Much of the “scheduling” aspect of this position has been completed, the active parts that remain for the school year are: classroom education in the garden, the garden cart and “Harvest of the Month.”  This is a wonderful opportunity to interact with the students and staff at Cottage Hill while fostering a love of gardening and curiosity for life science. Just three months left to fill!  Please see attached flier and contact Frances di Cristina at Sierra Harvest directly.
Kindergarten/TK Round Up is Coming Soon!

Please join us for Kindergarten/TK Round Up on March 24th at 6:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room.  This is a parent information night for ALL parents of students entering TK or Kindergarten at Cottage Hill.

You will receive an enrollment packet with all info and paperwork that needs to be submitted to enroll your child in either program.  You will learn about the two programs and meet the teachers and Principal.  You will also sign up for an appointment for your child to take a Kindergarten readiness assessment.  (TK parents do not need to sign up for an appointment).  The appointment is for the following day, during the school day.

If you are unsure whether your child is TK or Kindergarten eligible, Kinder students must turn 5 on or before September 1stIf your child turns 5 between September 2nd and December 2nd, they will enroll in TK.  If your child turns 5 after December 2nd, please wait and enroll them in the preschool program.

Hello all! It’s time for another box tops competition!! Please get all of your box tops sent in to your teacher, cut and with expired ones removed. I will be going around picking them up Feb 13, 2020. Each box top is worth ten cents and the money goes straight to the classroom. We will be having a competition to see what class brings in the most physical tops! Along with bringing in box tops, please download the BoxTopsforEducation app and plug in Cottage Hill Elementary School and every time you go to your grocery store, just scan your receipt and you will have earned box tops for your school! There is no way to record which teacher it will go to but the earnings from the app will be divided evenly between all teachers and will help out every single classroom. Let’s do this!!
