Looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of others this holiday season?

Starting Monday, December 2nd, the PTC welcomes you to stop by the front office of Cottage Hill school to select an ornament from the "Joy of Giving Tree." Each ornament is an opportunity to make a charitable donation of goods to a student/family in need attending our school.

To participate, follow these simple steps:
1. Select an ornament from the "Joy of Giving Tree" that matches up with your donation expectations.
2. Register your name and contact information for that specific ornament/gift on the chart by the tree.
3. Purchase and gift wrap your designated gift item(s).
4. Attach the ornament/tag to your wrapped gift.
5. Return gift(s) to the front office (by December 17th, or earlier) to be placed under the tree and ultimately into the hands of a grateful recipient.

The Band Schedule is Changing After Thanksgiving!!

When we come back from Thanksgiving on December 2 there will be a new Band Schedule:  Monday/Wednesday will be all wind instruments combined.  Tuesday/Thursday will be all brass instruments combined.  The time remains the same.
“******MEETING CHANGE NOTICE*****
Due to Mistletoe Mall taking place the second week of December, the next PTC meeting will be moved up to Wednesday, December 4th, at 12:30pm in Room 17.  The PTC will discuss Mistletoe Mall (of course!), ongoing topics such as the Performing Arts contractor position, budget and upcoming events.  Please join us!!!”
Heads Up - Weather Alert!

Because there is a possibility of snow in the forecast for late tomorrow afternoon, After School Rec and Good News Club are cancelled.  The Little's Holiday Fun Class and Band will still be held and the band students may still ride the Magnolia bus (this might not have been clear from Mr. Clark's all call).

SCHOOL WILL BE IN SESSION UNLESS YOU GET A CALL FROM MR. CLARK THAT STATES OTHERWISE.
Cottage Hill held a fire drill this morning in order to practice emergency routines in case we have to evacuate the classrooms due to fire.  The students did a great job, exiting the rooms quickly and quietly and lining up in their designated safe place.  We account for every child, staff member and parent volunteer who is signed up in the visitor's log before we sound the "all clear" bell.  You can talk to your child tonight about why we practice for emergencies, and what they should do at home if there were a fire.

Last week we had a lockdown drill.  The teachers prepared their students in advance, and it went very smoothly.  Typically we have one emergency drill per month, but we are making up for some that were cancelled due to the power outages.  In the future I will notify you when we have drills so that you can talk to your children about it that night.
Cottage Hill's Mistletoe Mall is coming Dec 9-12!

Mistletoe Mall is a student only shopping experience put on by the PTC. Our own volunteers shop sales, assemble and create gifts and set up a fun shopping center on campus for the students! The students love to come to the Mall and shop for gifts for their family and friends.

We need LOTS of Volunteers. Please check out the sign up genius

From the PTC:

How is it that we are looking towards our November PTC meeting already?  It's been a bizarre school year so far with lots of changes and unforeseen events. One constant that has remained is the hard work and dedication of the teaching staff and a strong connection between the  PTC, teachers, and Cottage Hill families. Yes!!
Please join in at our next meeting, Wednesday November 13th at 12 p.m. in room 17.  We will celebrate the success of Fall Family Fun Night and dive into the preparation and planning for Mistletoe Mall.
Our next Education Advisory Committee Meeting will be on November 18th beginning at 4:30PM and ending at 6:00PM.  The topic of discussion will be Social-Emotional Learning and SEL infrastructure in the Pleasant Ridge Union School District.  This is a very important topic as we are seeing an increase of students with anxieties, the inability to cope with change, trauma and adverse childhood experiences.  As a learning community, all stakeholders will need to become experts on how to address these growing issues.

Please join us for this meeting to assist Pleasant Ridge in planning for the future for our students.

Please read the article that is attached to this email prior to the EAC meeting.

Our Lost and Found box has reached critical mass!!  Clothes will be spread out in the courtyard (as long as the weather is clear) until Friday, November 15.  All remaining clothing will be donated that afternoon.  Please stop by to pick up any missing items before the 15th.
Book Fair is this week!  Due to all the postponements, this Book Fair is smaller than our usual event.

The Book Fair is open Monday through Friday, 9-1.  There will be no evening or after school hours this time.  For your shopping ease, you might want to check the Library web page and set up an eWallet account (see link below).  You can put money on the account for your child to access while shopping rather than sending money to school.  Any unused funds will be returned to the credit card.  You can also join your child during their regular Library time and shop with them!

We will have our second Book Fair in April in April during the week of Open House.
